Kristin Joos is a graduate of UF earning her bachelors degree in Psychology with minors in Sociology, Religion, and Women's & Gender Studies in 1998, a Masters in Sociology in 1999, and in May 2003 she graduated with a Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology & a graduate certificate from the Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research. Her research interests centered around youth & emerging adults, issues of identity, gender and the media, and social change. She is the Coordinator of UF's Innovative Social Impact Initiative and was UF's delegate to the Skoll World Forum for Social Entrepreneurship in 2007. She also does applied sociology, working with bright, motivated students helping them to explore their life goals and values, as she is particularly interested in the future goals of young people and hopes to turn her dissertation work in this area into a book. Kristin also works with Kendal Broad researching Queer (LGBTQ) Families, specifically the children of LGBTQ Parent(s). Currently her energy is focused on teaching-- she was awarded Service Learning Professor of the Year at UF in 2007.
